VMAs Nominations 2017

(MTV)

The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards nominations were announced on Tuesday. Check out the full list of nominees below!

The crop of nominees for this year’s VMAs were unveiled with little warning. Seemingly out of nowhere, social media personalities like Ricky Dillon started posting tweets urging fans to check them out on Instagram Live for a “huge announcement.” MTV retweeted the messages. Upon tuning in, fans saw the various stars announcing the nominations for a variety of categories.

Taking inspiration from the MTV Movie & TV Awards, which took place earlier this year, the VMAs are going gender-neutral. Instead of Best Male Video and Best Female Video, which were always category staples, this year’s awards are genderless with the new Artist of the Year honor. In addition, Best Fight Against The System, which was awarded for justice- and activist-minded films and television shows April, will be handed out here for music videos that “inspire viewers to stand up and fight injustice.”

In April, it was announced that the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards were returning to The Forum in Los Angeles after the 2016 ceremony was held at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. The show didn’t have a host last time around, and one hasn’t been announced for the upcoming event, either. No matter, Gossip Cop will full have full coverage of the awards show, including the top performances, biggest winners and must-see fashion. The VMAs are slated to air live on August 27 at 8 p.m. Eastern. Check out the full list of nominees below!
