Friends of Paula Abdul are not worrying she may suffer an eating disorder “relapse,” despite an alarming but false report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this story, which comes from the tabloids.

The allegation can be found in the current edition of the National Enquirer, which blares in a headline, “Paula Abdul Bulimia Shocker!” The accompanying article begins, “Perky Paula Abdul beat an eating disorder years ago, but now friends worry she’ll relapse into bulimia after being injured on tour.” After straining a muscle on the “Total Package Tour,” Abdul missed a few shows earlier this month. Though she’s already back to performing, the supermarket tabloid speculates that the injury may lead Abdul to return to her old unhealthy behavior from the 1990s.

“Paula could start worrying that she hurt herself because she’s too heavy, and that could trigger her eating disorder,” a so-called “insider” is quoted as saying. As evidence that Abdul “might decide her weight is the problem,” the gossip magazine points to comments she made about getting in shape for the concert series. The publication also rehashes the former “American Idol” judge’s old statements about struggling with her weight.

The outlet adds that “doctors warn a bulimia relapse would take a terrible toll on Paula’s body.” Of course, the two doctors quoted have never treated, or even met, the singer-dancer. So, to recap, the National Enquirer claims Abdul may start throwing up after eating because she injured herself on tour, but she’s already resumed performing. And the only proof for such concerns is old quotes from Abdul and new comments from medical professionals talking generally about bulimia.

Call us skeptical, but it seems the tabloid merely wanted to sensationalize Abdul’s minor injury and decided to connect it to the eating disorder she suffered from two decades ago. Because if “friends” were truly worried about her well-being, they wouldn’t be talking about it with the National Enquirer. Indeed, “this article is total B.S.,” a rep for the star tells Gossip Cop exclusively.

This is the second time the “Straight Up” performer has been the subject of fake news this month. Less than two weeks ago, the publication’s sister outlet, RadarOnline, falsely claimed Abdul was evicted from her apartment home. In actuality, Gossip Cop learned Abdul moved out earlier this year as the owner planned to sell the property. It seems the tabloid and webloid rather twist basic news into scandalous fiction rather than just tell the truth.
