Report: Former Cavaliers GM David Griffin will be among Knicks’ first interviews Sport News

Since the Knicks announced they were parting ways with team president Phil Jackson on Wednesday, plenty of names have been mentioned as possible replacements. Former Knicks president of basketball operations Isiah Thomas has already taken himself out of the running, while the team reportedly had no interest in Kentucky’s John Calipari when his representatives came calling.

One person the Knicks are reportedly interested in, however, is former Cavaliers general manager David Griffin, who agreed to leave the team a week after Cleveland’s loss to the Warriors in the NBA Finals. According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, Griffin will be among the Knicks’ first interviews.

Shelburne also reports that the Knicks are in no rush to name a replacement for Jackson, and that general manager Steve Mills will continue to run the team with adviser Tim Leiweke for the time being.

It’s not an ideal position for the Knicks given that free agency opens Saturday, but it appeared the time was right for the Phil Jackson era to end, so it was best not to drag it out over the summer.

Griffin was the general manager in Cleveland for three seasons and built the team that led the Cavaliers to their first NBA championship in 2016. According to reports, Raptors president Masai Ujiri is also being considered for the Knicks’ front office.
